Stinky Twinkie (not our favorite race name!), aka "Pumpkin", is a 19-year-old registered chestnut Thoroughbred mare that stands 15.3h. (Don't let her age scare you; she really thinks she is 3!) Pumpkin was a racehorse for a few years before being seized in a large cruelty case, where she was emaciated with a foal at her side with almost 75 other horses. After being adopted out by another rescue, she was returned through no fault of hers. She then was transferred to Lollypop Farm, where she has been patiently waiting for a family of her own.
Pumpkin is currently being ridden at the walk-trot-canter, and has just started hopping over small fences. She is UTD on deworming, farrier, dental work, and vaccines. Pumpkin is a sweet girl who loves people, but is also your typical sassy red mare. At this point in her life, she would really just like to be a pleasure horse (especially on trails), or a companion. We have taken her to a natural horsemanship clinic, and to our Benefit Trail Ride at Mendon Ponds Park. She did fanastic at both!
Pumpkin needs an experienced rider who can handle her occasional hot behavior. She doesn't do anything naughty or dangerous, but her antics under saddle (snorting, prancing, sidestepping) require a calm, confident rider who will sit quietly and send her forward where she works out of it quickly (we believe this might be residual behavior from her days at the track). Pumpkin very much bonds to one person, and despite her quirks, she is a staff favorite. You will often see us on her, just shaking our heads laughing as she works out of her silliness!
Suitable for an Advanced Rider.
Pumpkin's Adoption Fee: $400
