My name is Barney and I am a 20-year-old Belgian gelding. I worked all my life on a farm until I lost my sight from cataracts. I know what you are thinking, how can a blind horse get around. The answer is with a little help from my friends. Titan and Jesse are my seeing eye buddies. When I first arrived, they showed me where the shelter, food, and water were. Now that I am comfortable and know where everything is, I wander the pasture all by myself. In fact, most people that come to visit don’t even realize that I am blind. The only thing that gives it away is the special mask that I wear in the summer to keep the sun out of my eyes. I am very good at leading because I know voice commands like step-up, Gee to go right, Haw to go left, and of course whoa to stop. When I am not out on adventures, I do love to drop my head down into my caregiver’s chest, close my eyes, and take a nap.
In order for me to feel comfortable at my forever home, I do need to be adopted with Jesse or Titan. Unless you have experience with a blind horse and have buddies for me to learn the ropes with.
