Missouri Forget-Me-Not Horse Rescue and Sanctuary was established as a non-profit 501(c)3 animal welfare organization in 2011 when Connie Hendrix and Donna Ogle, who had been rescuing and sheltering horses using their own funds, realized that they needed public support in order to continue to help reduce the suffering of the ever increasing number of neglected, abandoned and unwanted horses in Central and Southwest Missouri. MFMN does not discriminate based on age, breed, health or ride-ability of the horses it accepts, but rather, helps all to live a good life, or sometimes pass away with dignity. Since 2011 the shelter has taken in over 350 horses and had nearly 200 adoptions. They work with law enforcement to help fight neglect and abuse and they are accredited by the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries.
The organization has minimal administrative costs, no paid employees and is a 100% volunteer organization. They also facilitate a network of foster homes in the surrounding area that also provides food and shelter to abandoned and unwanted horses. The organization is funded by contributions from individuals. All donations are tax deductible.
